Must pass pre-employment examination.
Designated and/or Random Drug Testing required.
Background and/or Security Investigation required.
Must be a United States Citizen.
Must have a full unrestricted License

English language proficiency DUTIES:
The hospitalist must be board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine and licensed in at least one state, must write and speak English, and evidence of completion of required licensure, credentials, required training, current competencies and background investigations must be validated prior to providing direct patient care.

Duties include bu! t are not limited to:

  • Daily progress notes on! their inpatients when rounding
  • Receive calls from other providers regarding their patients
  • Oversee the work provided by the Medical Service hospitalist physician assistants
  • Provide internist coverage/evaluation/treatment of patients in the Emergency Room (only as pertains to internal medicine training)
  • Rotate through the in-house on-call schedule nights and weekends with reimbursement in accordance with the price and cost schedule
  • Progress notes and an outpatient encounter will be completed the same day of the patient's visit in the Emergency Room
  • Hospitalists are required to participate in Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE)
  • Ordering of laboratory, radiologic, and other diagnostic tests
  • Initiating and expediting request for consultation and scheduling special tests and studies
  • Making daily rounds, documentation in medical record,! changing orders when appropriate
  • Be On-Call as required
  • Will be required to use CPRS to enter data and order into medical records
Hospitalist rotations are Monday through Sunday, Monday through Thursday, or Friday through Sunday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) is first line Emergency Room internal medicine coverage with tour of duties of Monday through Sunday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with one night 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. once every 14 days.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Some lifting (45 lbs and over); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 3 hours); standing (up to 3 hours); repeated bending (up to 1 hour); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordinator simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16 "; hearing (aid permitted). QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements :
Mu! st be proficient in written and spoken English.

Degree of doct! or of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience : Two years of practice experience.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
