MINIMUM PROVIDER QUALIFICATIONS:
Citizenship. Must be a citizen of the United States
Education. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or Osteopathic Medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Licensure and Registration. Physician applicants must have a current unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the Unites States or the District of Columbia.
Board Certification/Board Eligible. Specia! lties in Internal Medicine and/or Family Practice will be considered.
First-year Residency (Internship). Completed first year residency or equivalent, as approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, for the year in which it was completed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidates acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Council of Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association in the year the residency was completed.
Other Residencies or their equivalents, which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine the residency requirement has been met, if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.
English Language Proficiency: Physician, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positi! ons, must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38! USC 7402(d) and 7407(d).
PROVIDERS MINIMUM REQUIRED DUTIES: Physicians are required to perform all duties associated with being a staff physician. Duties include, but are not limited to:
A licensed physician shall perform services in a professional and expeditious manner and in accordance with Medical Center policies and guidelines, the American Medical Association guidelines and requirements of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO).
Contractor shall provide primary care services as a point of entry in the healthcare system for non-emergency care. Primary care services are those that are typically provided by a general internist or family practitioner.
Primary care shall encompass all services provided in a primary care setting which shall include but may not be limited to: diagnoses and necessary treatment of medical and psychiatric conditions not requiring referral or inpatient hospital services and ad! dressing clinical reminders in the Electronic Medical Record.
Contract physician shall maintain an ongoing Relationship with the VA patient for a wide range of health problems and arrange for referral to the VA for more specialized services if medically indicated.
Documentation of clinical care shall be entered into the computerized medical record.
Services shall also include removal of cerumen from the ear canal, simple incisions and drainage (I&D), P0AP Smears, physical examinations and any other basic primary care procedures.
Contractor shall be responsible for the management of medical and continuity of care for all VA patients seen in the primary care clinic under this contract.
Primary health care management shall include the appropriate referral and scheduling assistance of VA patients requiring specialty health care services and those identified through the provision of preventive service to the VA patient.
VA patients shall be seen by the Co! ntractor's primary care provider within 30 minutes of scheduled appoint! ment time.
Assists the quality assurance program by ensuring adherence to all distribution policies involving processing, storage, preparation, dispensing, availability and record-keeping in order to promote patient safety and maintain high quality patient care.
Adheres to all patient confidentially and privacy (HIPPA) requirements.
