Purpose of the Job
As SCADA & Network Design Engineer" in case of projects:
- Assist the “Power Supply Design Leader” in his role of performing the basic and detailed power supply engineering activities of a traction project (metro and tramway, Open Line),
- Responsible for the Automation & SCADA basic and detailed design,
- Produce the necessary design and engineering workload and deliver with excellence at the right time and the right quality,
- Participate to the REX (Return of Experience) of the project,
- Provide support to one or several Bids in line with policies, standards, regulation and customer specifications.
Organisation Reporting
- The position reports hierarchically to the “Head of INFRA Engineering Department”.
Network & Links
The “SADA & Network Design Engineer” will liaise with:
- Engineering: Power supply engineering team + other engineering teams,
- Project: Project management team + System Engineering Team
- Site: Construction + tests and commissioning teams,
- Bid: Bid management team,
- External interface: Suppliers + Subcontractors + Customer + Partners,
- Regional Centers.

The “SCADA & Network Design Engineer” work will be evaluated according to the following points:
- On-time delivering: 100%,
- Respect of Design for Quality milestones: 100% Go On Time, in accordance with the standards or rules of his/her Metier,
- Respect of performances of the system provided: 100%.
- The quality of the works performed in the frame of Central function
Responsibilities
As “SCADA & Network Design Engineer” in project:
- Perform the Automation & SCADA basic engineering activities of a project
- Analyze customer’s specifications / requirements and design components of SCADA System and Network
- Define all architectures for automation and SCADA systems,
- Provide hardware and software functional specifications
- Provide all technical and interfaces specifications for SCADA and Network,
- Prepare points lists of all data transferred in SCADA system.
- Perform the Automation & SCADA detailed engineering activities of a project:
- Ensure the technical monitoring of the subcontractor for automation programs and cubicles, SCADA Application & Network Architecture
- Provide the connection diagrams, architecture Network
- Develop and document SCADA Applications,
- Create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems,
- Design and configure network and communication for RTUs,IEDs,HMIs, PLC's and other SCADA system equipment,
- Design and integrate wired and wireless Ethernet and Serial data networks,
- Assign and program data addressing and routing information,
- Develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens and SCADA Server Application,
- Configure desktop and server PC hardware and OS,
- Install, configure and support network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, firewalls, controllers WAN accelerators, DNS and DHCP
- Participate to the factory acceptance tests of the automation and SCADA systems.
- Assist the “Power Supply Design Leader” about all SCADA interfaces and risks to be managed,
- Provide technical support to Construction and Test and Commissioning teams with regards to SCADA & Automation design issues,
- Deliver the As-built documentation drawings modifications.
Knowledge & Experience
- Graduated from engineering school (bachelor's or master;s degree) in SCADA and Automation systems or Computer Science/Systems and Networks
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with programming and configuring SCADA software packages, PLC platforms, Microsoft Operating Systems, OPC, SQL and OLE clients and servers,
- Professional experience in railway transportation shall be considered as an asset,
- SCADA System Design, configuration and Commissioning is appreciated
- Programming Language (Python, C++ or Java) is desired
- Networking design skills
- Good knowledge of operating systems
- Knowledge of Network and communication protocols (i.e DNP, Modbus, Goose Messaging, IEC 61850, TCP/IP),
- Very good writing and editorial skills,
- Good co-ordination and communication skills,
- Autonomy, motivated, initiative and, and interested in technical topics,
- Problem solving mindset with attention to detail and good analytical skills,
- Fluent English, second language appreciated.
